Karunalayam and Santhwanam are the two milestones in the misericodial history of the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. Karunalayam, an enterprise envisioned by late Bishop Mar Sebastian Valloppilly the architect of Malabar, is a home for the aged, where the unattended and unwanted elderly are tenderly taken care of. Santhwanam, a Golden jubilee venture of the Archdiocese initiated by Archbishop Mar George Valiamattam, is meant for the palliative care of the terminally ill, especially of cancer patients. The two establishments are extending service to the needy of the society irrespective of cast, creed or gender. The number of beneficiaries of these two undertakings so far is estimated to be more than 1000 elderly parents and 600 terminally affected cancer patients.
