BATA has a tradition (since 1980) of teaching, training and mentoring men and women in their pursuit of God's calling for them revealed through Sacred Scripture. We also have a strong commitment to training leaders for all walks of life. For many this means training for the mission field or the pulpit. For others it means putting the grace and wisdom of the Gospel into practice in kitchens, factories, board rooms and other social fields. We exist to equip leaders to be faithful, critical, prophetic and engaged. This institute was founded in 1979 by the Archdiocese of Tellicherry, Kerala, India. Its first Director was Rev. Dr. Michael Karimattam, and he was succeeded by Rev. Fr. Mathew Vengakkunnel and Rev. Dr. George Kudilil. Since 2006 Rev. Dr. Joseph Pamplaniyil is the current Director.
